And Pessimists Beware Was Born...

It started with me playing a game with myself to create Positivity and Inspiration. In 1999 I was working hard designing and implementing a new student services program at Santa Barbara City College and my desk was ALWAYS full of things that needed to be done yesterday. I wanted to do something so that I I did not leave my office on Friday with the weighty feeling "it is never all done".. So I started sending out an e-mail message of inspiring or motivational quotes based on a particular topic. I had loved quotes and always been an Optimist (click here for the Pony in the Horse Poop story) so it was a natural thing to do. AND I felt better when I left the office. More confident, excited, alive.

I started asking friends and family if they wanted to receive a weekly dose of Inspiration and Positivity. Soon I had people asking for it.

About six months after sending the messages I received my first negative comment. Sort of the "Boy aren't you cheery" type of bah humbug comment. I wrote back "Pessimists Beware! Because Positivity is coming through, and as a force." I liked the disclaimer that Optimism was present and powerful, kind of an announcement that a warm fuzzy was coming. Get Ready! I instantly knew I had a name for what I was doing. A flag or battle cry for my new mission to spread Inspiration, Empowerment Action and Optimism. And that is the declaration that I make at the end of every Pessimists Beware message. It is who I am.
